Our Story
Hello! My name is Jeanne Powers, and I am the handcrafter and proprietor of “Shark Bite Gear”. As a lifetime animal lover, I would have to say I love greyhounds most of all. My whole life I have always loved sewing, baking, and doing any type of arts and crafts.
It all began when my son, Shaun, adopted a greyhound named Keima, “Wild Shark Bite” (what a cool race name!). My son convinced me that I could make martingale collars for the Greyhounds. So, I picked the PERFECT name for my business and gained a partner, “Shark Bite Gear”, named after the sweetest boy ever. I began collecting fabrics and all I needed to get started. The business officially came to be on December 17, 2014.
My first order was for a sweet dog named Riley! I sent a large cookie jar filled with Shark Bite cookies, some Bark for the humans and a toy bunny for a Christmas gift. I was told he loved everything he got. That truly made my day and solidified that I made the right decision in starting up a business. The first official craft vending show was on September 12, 2015 for GPA-MA (Greyhound Pets of America- Massachusetts), then Greyhound Options, WAG (We Adopt Greyhounds) and a couple in between. Vending at shows brings me so much joy- I love seeing all our old friends and meeting many new ones. With the help of my wonderful husband, David and son, Shaun, I travel across New England setting up my shop at different meet-ups and events...I’m very thankful for all their help.
The Greyhound Community is one of a kind. If anyone needs a hand, they all pull together to support a greyhound or family in need. Greyhounds are a special breed of silliness and always succeed in making us laugh. We've had 6 Greyhounds who passed, but their legacy lives on. My son recently adopted a bonded pair; healing our hearts a bit each day. They are still young and full of it! All of our greyhounds were brought into our home with many cats and small dog- completing our crazy family!
I've mastered Martingale collars for Greyhounds, but also cat collars, small breed dog collars, and toys and treats for all of the above! Some for the humans too...
I also do custom orders, use the link provided to reach out to me.
Have a Greyt day and give your pup or kitty some skritches for me!

Early March of 2013 my son Shaun adopted the most handsome, sweetest greyhound ever. His name was Keima, “Wild Shark Bite”, such a cool racing name!
Keima means Black Knight in Japanese, the most fitting name my son could have given him. Because he was just what his name meant, a true knight.
He immediately befriended Nala, a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix puppy. He was always so gentle and sweet with her and they were always best buddies through the years. Keima was a Tri-State, Grade A dog and did very well with his racing career. In late 2014 Shaun left home to go train the greyhounds in Jacksonville, FL; a job he was very excited about doing. I was excited because we got to keep Keima with us while Shaun was away. The whole family got very attached to him, it was easy to do because he was the bestest boy ever.
Keima is the reason why I love the Greyhound breed, he was the perfect dog, never did anything wrong, just a really good, loving boy. When he was at any events with other greyhound, he would not play with them. He had a job to do…he was the Sheriff of play, after all. Yup, that’s right...if the others got too rowdy he would only have to bark at them and they ALL listened to him. It was amazing to see that side of him!
Thank you Keima for giving me the love for Greyhounds and the ambition to create our business “Shark Bite Gear”. Named after the bestest boy ever!! Love you always my sweet boy.
